Williamsburg motorcyclist gets three separate settlements for crushed leg and other injuries
My client was operating his motorcycle in the course and scope of his self-employment. He fortunately carried workers' compensation insurance coverage for himself in addition to his employees. While traveling to a job site in Hollidaysburg, my client moved to the left lane to pass the slower moving truck operated by his employee. While doing this an unidentified sedan pulled across the opposite lane of travel and into my client's path. My client dropped his bike on purpose to the pavement to avoid impact with this sedan. This caused my client to be pushed and dragged under the trailer wheels of the other vehicle operated by his employee.
My client treated for a head injury, left ankle fracture, and a left lower leg crush injury. Unfortunately he developed compartment syndrome to his leg and underwent three surgical procedures to his leg. He was unable to work for a significant period of time. We recovered his lost wages, made a significant uninsured motorists claim for him, and made sure that his medical bills were paid under the workers' compensation coverage.
Motorcycle cases are very difficult to prove. In other words, insurance carriers often decide to fight these claims regardless of the facts. Here, we were able to stack my client's uninsured motorists coverage and helped him to make a very nice settlement.
Shoulder surgery to an Everett motorcyclist
My client pulled his motorcycle up to an intersection where all four directions had a stop sign. Another driver entered the intersection but, for an inexplicable reason, brought his vehicle to a complete halt. My client dropped his motorcycle intentionally to avoid a broadside accident. The other driver was cited by the police for a violation of "Duties at a Stop Sign."
My client suffered a severe AC joint separation to his shoulder, in addition to torn ligaments and tendonitis. He underwent successful arthroscopic shoulder surgery which was followed by physical therapy. We were able to settle the claim against the adverse driver, and make a second settlement for underinsured motorists benefits from my client's policy. My client made a nice recovery and was able to settle these claims in excess of $100,000.00.
Motorcyclist suffers Lisfranc and compartment injuries to foot
A young Altoona woman was a passenger on the back of a motorcycle that was involved in an accident. She suffered severe damage to her left leg including Type 2 open left tib-fib fracture, large hole in left ankle, debridement of a foot wound, skin grafting, reconstructive surgery and screws penetrating skin into bone to immobilize the foot. Pins were put in her foot but had to be removed due to the pain. The client temporarily lost her job but was able to regain a different position with the same employer at a later date.
