Vacation Injuries

Are you and your family planning on going on vacation for spring break this year? If so, you may be looking forward to warm weather, relaxation, and a nice resort stay.  However, it is important to realize that personal injury is a risk, even when you're on vacation!  Common vacation activities like segways, boat rides, and bus tours can lead to injuries that can put a quick stop to your vacation fun. Here are some ways to help you avoid injury or accident while on vacation:

  • If booking an excursion, look at the company's website for signs that they are a reputable company.  Scan the site for things such as: postings of official state/country licenses for operation, the experience level of the instructor, and any contingency plans in case of emergency. Also do some internet searches and see what you find when that company's name shows up.
  • Be aware of where you're walking, especially at night. Many vacation destinations have low lighting around walkways, narrow or uneven surfaces, and may be busy with other forms of transportation (such as bicycles and cars).
  • Always have local emergency contact information programmed and ready to go in your phone. This is especially important if you're traveling internationally.

If you're on vacation and sustain an injury due to the fault of another, you should speak with an attorney about your potential legal rights.  Faulty equipment, improper safety protocols, and/or inexperienced instructors and drivers may all lead to a potentially dangerous and deadly situation for you while on vacation. Attorney Doug Stoehr is a personal injury attorney located in Altoona, PA.  Please contact his central PA area firm for any questions or to discuss your potential legal claim at 814-946-4100.
