Dog Bites And Owner Responsibility

Did you know that, depending on your state, dog bites can factor into your home insurance policy?  About 1/3 of all homeowners insurance claims paid out in recent years were a result of dog bites and other dog injuries.  The type of dog you own matters to insurers, too. They use statistics to determine which dog breeds are considered more likely to bite, and will sometimes deny home insurance to people who own certain dog breeds.  Although "breed restriction" is not legal in Pennsylvania, it is still important information to know when considering adding a new pet to your home.

Dog Bite Injuries Can Be Deadly

Dog bites are scary, messy, and potentially fatal.  In recent months, dog bites have been getting a great deal of press due to several cases in which dog bite victims have died as a result of their injuries.  Sometimes, these injuries are directly due to the injuries sustained in the attacks, while other times these deaths are due to infections caused by bacteria transferred from the dog to the human victim.  Of course, these attacks are largely avoidable if pet owners remember to be smart, responsible, safe, and considerate of others.
