ATV and snowmobile use in our state is common, especially in our central PA area. What you might not know is how much land the state of Pennsylvania has for recreational use. According to reports, snowmobile riders are able to access about 3,000 miles of trails. These trails can be found in 90% of state forest districts, as well as in many of our state parks. The state snowmobile season officially runs from December 15-April 1st. The state also provides condition updates via its snowmobile hotline, which is updated twice weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays). As many state snowmobile riders know, all all-terrain vehicle units have to be registered in the state of PA.
While it might not quite be time yet to be participating in snow activities, the season is right around the corner! Unfortunately, injuries can happen when you are engaging in winter activities like snow tubing, skiing, and snowmobiling. Over the summer, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court decided to hear the case of an accident victim who was paralyzed from the neck down while snow tubing at a PA resort. According to news sources, the victim was riding a snow tube head first down a slope. His tube hit a mat at the end of the tubing area and stopped very quickly, which caused him to be launched into the snow. As a result of his subsequent fall, his spinal cord was hyperextended and caused paralysis from the neck down. He wishes to sue the resort for his injuries.
Being from central Pennsylvania, it's hard not to enjoy the change of seasons. For many of us, this winter will include a trip to one of the three ski resorts that serve our area. Ski resorts can be a great place to cut loose with family and friends, but unfortunately sometimes those fun times end prematurely when you or a family member is injured. At the law firm of Attorney Douglas V.Stoehr, we have experience in handling injuries related to skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing accidents. Unfortunately, sometimes these injuries can be very serious and change your life permanently. If you have been injured in a winter sport activity please contact us to discuss the possibility of a personal injury claim.
