Mild TBIs Can Have Lasting Effects

| Jun 21, 2019 | Uncategorized

According to a new research study, patients who suffer from mild traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) may be more prone to having long-term deficits that impede daily life activities, as compared to other types of medical issues.  Research has shown for years that moderate and severe brain injuries have lasting effects, but the effects of mild TBIs on long-term functioning have been less researched.

A new study completed and reported in JAMA Neurology, using over 1,100 patients with mild TBIs, stated that, two weeks post-injury, almost 90% of brain injury patients still reported limitations in daily function.  These difficulties persisted after one year post-injury.  Unfortunately, many of these same patients don’t consistently receive follow-up treatment from health providers.  Within the study, car crashes were the most common cause of mild TBI, followed by falls.

Attorney Doug Stoehr knows how difficult it can be when you or a family member has suffered a debilitating spinal cord or brain injury.  His legal practice is focused solely on personal injury, including cases where severe spinal cord, brain, and other serious injuries have occurred.  He has successfully handled cases for clients involving motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, and falls; most recently, one of his cases involving severe brain injury settled for over $1.2 million dollars.
